Senior official inspects Laos-Vietnam border demarcation work

(KPL) A high ranking delegation of the Laos-Vietnam Joint Technical Committees in charge of Border Demarcation led by Mr. Phoukhao Phommavongsa, Head of the National Border Committee Office visited from 4-9 May a provinces of Borlikhamsy, Khammouane, Savannakhet, Saravane, Sekong and Attapeu to inspect the border demarcation work.
This was a part of the committee’s activities to implement the resolution of the fourth meeting of the Laos-Vietnam Joint Technical Committees in charge of Border Demarcation held in Luang Prabang on March 2009.During the visit, the delegation was briefed by the relevant sectors in each province about the demarcation work which implemented with satisfactory, enhanced by effective co-operation and co-ordination from the Vietnamese side.
The visit aimed to follow up and encourage project activities to ensure work is completed in accordance with plans agreed upon by the two governments.
On this occasion, Mr. Phoukhao advised the relevant officials to pay close attention to ensuring border posts are located, as identified in the treaty on Laos-Vietnam border allocation and a newly created map for the project.
Laos has 10 provinces sharing a border with Vietnam over a distance of 2,067 km.
The two governments expect to complete border demarcation by 2014.
