OVER EXPOSURE TO X-RAY CAN CAUSE INFLAMMATION OF TISSUE
PENANG (Malaysia), May 16 (Bernama) -- Medical practitioners have been
advised to use X-ray according to standard as over exposure to radiation can
cause inflammation of tissue and cancer.
Health Ministry medical expansion division director Dr Azmi Shapie said this
was because the use of X-ray in medicine was the main cause of radiation on
humans.
"The United Nations Specific Committee on the Effect of Atomic Radiation
said X-ray contributes 95 percent of radiation on humans," he said at a medical
imaging seminar here Saturday.
Dr Azmi said control based on international standard should be followed to
ensure that exposure to radiation was as low as possible.
In Malaysia, there are 3,964 ways of being exposed to radiation including
the medical service, public and private sectors.
