US WILL WORK CLOSELY WITH M'SIAN AUTHORITY ON H1N1

KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysia), May 20 (Bernama) -- The United States (US) will work closely with Malaysian Health authorities and other nations to ensure that the influenza A or (H1N1) does not reach a serious level.

The US Ambassador to Malaysia, James R.Keith, said US authorities had
conformed to all precautionary measures set by the World Health Organisation
(WHO) while allying with several other nations to curb the contagious virus from
spreading.

"We are placing all efforts while the Centre for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) of the United States is also in constant contact with the
Malaysian Health Ministry," he told reporters after making a familiarisation
trip to Terengganu, in east coast Peninsular Malaysia, Tuesday.

Keith said the transmission of the virus was hard to control due to its
pattern.

"The virus takes time to incubate as it could only be detected after a week
or so. For instance, in the first case in Malaysia, the infected patient who
travelled back from New York had not shown an early symptom.

"For that reason, WHO is discouraging overseas travel for a while until the
situation turns normal," added Keith.
