Japanese artistic gymnast Kohei Uchimura retires from competition

TOKYO, Jan. 11 Kyodo - Two-time Olympic all-around artistic gymnastics champion Kohei Uchimura announced Tuesday he will retire from competition. The 33-year-old Uchimura, Japan's six-time world all-around champion, made the announcement via his management office. He failed to make the medals podium in the last world championships held in October in Kitakyushu, the southwestern Japanese city where he was born, competing only on the horizontal bar and finishing sixth in the apparatus final. Uchimura showed no sign of regret at the time, saying, "I can't do more. I honestly feel I gave it my all. I think I was able to convey to the spectators the wonder of gymnastics." ==Kyodo
