Wetland Protection and Its Sustained Use Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, February 3 (KCNA) -- Korea surrounded by the seas on the three sides and which abounds in rivers, streams and lakes has not a few wetland.
Wetland plays an important role in ecosystem and environmental preservation as it offers water resources, protects bio-diversity, adjusts climate and clears environment.
Brisk activities are under way in the DPRK for wetland protection and its sustained use.
A department director of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection when interviewed by a journalist on the occasion of the World Wetland Day said there is nationwide investigation into wetland and its protection.
He said that "Wetland Inventory for DPRK" recording more than 50 typical wetland in our country was published in Juche 107(2018) to be used for wetland protection and management.
In September 2020, wetland-related articles were supplemented to the Nature Reserve Law of the DPRK, enabling the better protection and management of wetland.
In May last year there was ecological and environmental investigation including that into types of wetland and animal and plant resources in wetland. The investigation into other wetland will continue this year, too.
Video introducing the Mundok Migratory Bird Reserve (wetland) and pictorial "Wetland in Rason" also contribute to knowledge of wetland.
The DPRK acceded to the Wetland Convention in May 2018.
The Mundok Migratory Bird Reserve (wetland) and the Rason Migratory Bird Reserve (wetland) are first to have been added to the internationally important wetland list (Ramsar site) in our country. -0-
