PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS CEREMONY ON REPUBLIC DAY

Baku, May 27 (AzerTAc). President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva have today attended a ceremony to mark 28 May, Republic Day at the Buta Palace.
The national anthem of Azerbaijan was performed.
The Head of State delivered a speech at the ceremony. He, in particular, said:
“The first democratic republic was established 91 years ago in the East, in the Muslim world. This is a historical event because, first of all, it was the first democratic republic in the Muslim world. On the other hand, Azerbaijani people gained independence,” noted the President.
“In accordance with the order I signed two years ago, a monument in honor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was erected on the Istiglaliyyet Street, in the downtown Baku. It is history, our history, which must be always a lesson,” the Head of State emphasized.
“As a result of the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Azerbaijan regained its independence in the 20th century for the second time. First years of independence were very hard for our country and we got the second chance”.
