Rice harvesting in Luang Namtha underway

(KPL) Head of Plantation Sector of Luang Namtha province said that farmers were harvesting their yield of dry season rice production on 350 hectares which is 80 % complete.
The yield is average of 4 tonnes per hectare of rice. It expected that the rice harvesting will complete early this month.
The areas for planting rice in recent dry season rice production were downward compared to last year figure, leading to a high expanse for rice growing.
A number of farmers have grown other cash crops replacing the rice growing such as maize, peanut, taro, cassava, vegetables and fruit tree.
Local source also reported that a number of farmers in the province started rainy season rice production.This year, authorities of Luang Namtha province will pay attention to take care irrigation system by forking out 60 million kip.
