Al-Lami Heads the FAJ's Delegation At the Meeting of Info Ministers in Cairo And Meets With a Number of Ministers and Officials
Baghdad / NINA / - The head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, the head of the Federation of Arab Journalists (FAJ), Muayyad Al-Lami, headed the FAJ's delegation participating in the meetings of the Standing Committee for Arab Media, the 97th session, the Executive Office of Arab Information Ministers in its fifteenth session, and the ministerial meeting for Arab media held in Cairo under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
On the sidelines of the conference, Al-Lami met with Karam Jabr, President of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, Kuwaiti Minister of Information, and Ramzan Al-Nuaimi, Bahraini Minister of Information, and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for National Dialogue, the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate, Diaa Rashwan, and a number of heads of Arab delegations and representatives of participating Arab unions.
He held bilateral meetings in which he exchanged visions on a number of challenges facing the Arab media.
On the sidelines of the information ministers' meetings, he discussed with the heads of Arab's unions the latest developments and preparations for hosting the General Conference of the Union of Arab Journalists next month.
The Egyptian Supreme Media Council had issued an official invitation to the Union of Arab Journalists, to participate in the work of the Arab Ministers of Information meeting.
The meetings, over a period of 3 days, included the holding of the 15th regular session of the Executive Office and the 97th regular session of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media.
A number of issues related to the Arab media were discussed, topped by continuing Arab media support for the Palestinian cause, with occupied al-Qudis at its core, and activating the goals of the Arab media strategy 2022-2026, including the use of the media, especially dealing with crises and disasters in light of national experiences with the "Corona" pandemic, follow-up to the plan for media action abroad and the role of the media in addressing the phenomenon of terrorism and extremism, the Arab media map for sustainable development 2030, and the inclusion of educational media in the curriculum of member states.
The Council of Arab Information Ministers also discussed, during the 52nd session, a number of organizational and structural issues, and reviewed the intensive activities and moves that characterized the work of the missions and centers of the League of Arab States, in close cooperation with the councils of Arab ambassadors in the countries of accreditation, and reviewed the reports of media organizations and unions, and the “Arabi Media Capital” event.
The head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Muayyad al-Lami, said in a statement: "The meeting of the Arab information ministers in Cairo comes at an important and sensitive time, given what is happening on the occupied Arab lands of flagrant violation and repeated crimes by the Israeli occupation forces against journalists and media institutions, which requires concerted efforts to support the Palestinian cause, in addition to moving forward in support of press freedoms in Arab countries, which contributes to creating a strong Arab media discourse in confronting hate speech and racism and confronting intellectual extremism.”
Al-Lami pointed out: "The Union of Arab Journalists is extending the bonds of cooperation during the coming period between all media and press institutions to reach forms of joint cooperation in the fields of media, training and joint production, to face challenges and contribute to building awareness by creating a journalistic work environment with more freedoms in various fields in all countries to graduate trained generations that contribute to spreading awareness through a package of training courses.”/ End
