+
TOKYO, June 4 Kyodo -
Japan's top government spokesman said Thursday that Japan will continue to urge
China to promote protection of human rights, as the day marks the 20th
anniversary of the military crackdown on the Tiananmen Square protests in
Beijing.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura told a press conference, ''There are
causes of concern, even though the Chinese government has been making some
efforts at promoting human rights.''
He said Tokyo will point out human rights and other problems to China if there
are any and ''continue to urge (Beijing) to take proactive action toward
(protection of the rights)'' in line with an agreement on strategic and
mutually beneficial relations reached last year by then Japanese Prime Minister
Yasuo Fukuda and Chinese President Hu Jintao.
