Suvannakhomkham town to propose as new world heritage site

(KPL) An ancient town of Laos “Suvannakhomkham” and the companion Thai town of Chiang Saen will be proposed by Ministry of Culture of Thailand to be listed as joint world heritage sites, according to Thai News Agency reported on 3 June. The Trans-boundary Archaeological Urban Complex of Chiang Saen and Suvannakhomkham, some 500-600 years old, is the Mekong River gateway to absorb culture from China and India, where the precursors of today’s Thailand and the Lao PDR developed their own unique cultures long ago, according to Thai Culture Minister, Teera Slukpetch.
The plan will propose to the UNESCO (the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) next year.
Souvannakhomkham is located in the area of Tonpheung district, a 56 km from Houay Say province, Laos. It remains as the trail evidence of the civilization and history. It was installed in the XIV century. The Buddha image of 7.11 meter wide and 7.22 meters high.
