Laos and Thailand lays 204 boundaries stones

(KPL) Laos and Thailand has nearly completed the cooperative task of laying 204 boundary stones to mark the Lao-Thai boundary line on a 679 kilometre stretch of land.
The demarcation work between the two countries had been an ongoing process for the past 34 years because work had been held up on many occasions by boundary disputes.
In order to resolve this problem, the two Sub-Committees for Lao-Thai Border Technical Cooperation met in Vientiane from 4 to 6 June. For the years, 2007-2009, the two countries were able to agree on the sites for 15 boundary markings so that the total boundary stones laid down since 1975 was 204.
In order to overcome the long delays in boundary work the two countries are planning to draw up their own plans on the demarcation of certain areas for 2009-10 and these will be submitted to the National Committees for Joint Border Cooperation for consideration.
