Laos-Vietnam cooperation project in Champassak

(KPL) The Lao and Vietnamese governments jointly cooperated on a three-year project, 2007-2009 to develop Thongkalong village, Paksong district, Champassak province.
The Lao government contributed 60 per cent of the pool of money, 38.94 billion kip, and it was used to fund 29 projects, spread over four villages, Thongkalong, Nongkhiengnoi, Huaysoy, and Namkong.
According to the Thongkalong village development project management board on Champassak province level, Mr Bouavanh Sisomphone.
The manager of this project, Mr Bouavan, said that so far the Thongkalong village development project has completed 28 projects, such as: the four kilometre road construction project from Chansavang to Thongkalvong, the two kilometre road construction project from the centre of Thongkalong village to Xekatam, the building of the village culture hall, development of the electrical network from Chansavang to Thongkalong, construction of the Thongkalong primary school, the Thongkalong secondary school construction project and the Kongtoun village primary school construction project.
The money was also used to build dispensaries, kindergartens and two irrigation projects in Xekatamtieng, and Huaysoy.Mr Bouavan said that there is the project to provide clean water to three villages: Thongkalong, Nongkhiengnoi, and Huaysoy and for another water project, a gravity-fed water system was constructed for Thongkalong and Nongkhiengnoi.
There is a partially completed project, the clearance of 250 hectares of land to plant coffee and as work on it is ongoing it will be completed at the end of the year.
The Laos-Vietnam cooperation project on Thongkalong village, covers four villages, 369 families, 322 households and 1,886 persons.
