Digital TVs lead items consumers want to buy with summer bonuses+

TOKYO, June 9 Kyodo -
Large, flat-screen televisions for terrestrial digital broadcasting, covered by
the government's ''eco-point'' purchase support program, top the list of
merchandise consumers want to buy with their bonuses this summer, Dentsu Inc.
said Tuesday in a survey report.

Energy-efficient air conditioners and other home appliances rank second in the
list, Japan's biggest advertising agency said, based on its survey of 1,000
consumers conducted in late May.
The government program was launched in May to encourage consumers to buy
environmentally friendly home appliances. It awards eco-points for the purchase
of energy-efficient air conditions, refrigerators and terrestrial digital TVs
and allows consumers to exchange their points for subsequent purchases of
products and services.
Also high on the list are clothing and other merchandise available at bargain
prices at suburban outlet malls, low-price personal computers and discount
overseas tours as the deep recession has made consumers wise spenders, Dentsu
said.
