UAE anti-H1N1 virus measures are adequately sound: Ministry of Health

Abu Dhabi, June 11, 2009 (WAM) - All precautionary measures taken by the Ministry of Health in coordination with other relevant health authorities were absolutely sound and meets with requirements and recommendations by the World Health Organisation (WHO), a senior health official affirmed today.
“The UAE is free of any infection of the disease for the time being. precautionary measures are being updated in view of the global outbreak of the disease and whenever necessary,'' said Dr. Ali bin Shukr, MoH Director and Chairman of the Technical Health Committee on Combating H1N1 virus, after a meeting of the Committee here today.
“Such epidemics require transparency and clarity from all stakeholders to avoid any unpredictable expectations,” he added, citing to the case of a foreign passenger who was infected with the virus and treated as per recognised health practices until he recovered and left the hospital.
“Technical teams are conducting regular review to precautionary measures to ensure highest standard of protection from the virus. All preparations are at hand to combat the disease if appeared in the country,” he underscored.
“The MoH is stepping up its educational programmes to raise health awareness about all aspects of prevention and combating the disease through booklets, symposiums, lectures and training workshops,” he said, adding the administrative, medical and technical were trained to respond and handle cases of the H1N1 infection.
“Quick H1N1 virus testing is available at public hospitals and land, sea and air outlets. All hospital operating in the country were provided with Tamilflu, an antiviral drug used to treat flu, he added.
