President Of The Republic Stresses The Importance Of The Existing Relations Between Iraq And The EU

 Baghdad / NINA /- The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed today, Sunday, the importance of the existing relations between Iraq and the European Union.

A statement by the Presidency of the Republic stated, "The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, at Baghdad Palace, the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Ville Varjola, on the occasion of the end of his tenure."

Rashid stressed, during the meeting, according to the statement, "the importance of the existing relations between Iraq and the European Union, and their development in many important areas, including issues of freedoms and human rights and the fight against terrorism and corruption," pointing to "the need to work to strengthen and develop them in a way that serves common interests."

He praised the ambassador's role during his tenure in developing bilateral relations, wishing him success in his future duties.

For his part, the ambassador extended his "thanks and appreciation to the President of the Republic," stressing "the importance of consolidating relations with Iraq and supporting its security and stability."/ End
