PM receives JOCV delegation

(KPL) Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh received at his office on 17 June, a courtesy visit of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) delegation during working visit to Laos.
The JOCV delegation was led by Japanese Ambassador to Laos, Mr Masaaki Miyashita to pay a courtesy visit to PM Bouasone.
PM Bouasone said the visit of JOCVs delegation was a great contribution to the existing friendly relations between Laos and Japan, and he hoped that the Japanese government will further provide the volunteers to help the development in Laos.
Japanese Ambassador Miyashita briefed the activities of JOCVs that the JOCVs have been engaged in voluntary activities since 1965, helping Lao people in various sectors throughout Laos. This courtesy call started in 2002, since then, this courtesy call has been made as an annual event between Laos and Japan.
JOCVs were dispatched to Laos in 1965 as one of the first dispatched countries. They have worked to help Lao people at grassroots level, playing an important role to develop the friendly and cooperative relationship between Laos and Japan. This would give them a strong encouragement for their future works.
In 2009, the Japan-Mekong Exchange Year, a lot of exchange events between Laos and Japan have been held and will be held in this year, and the friendly relations between Laos and Japan will be further promoted.
