The Presidency Of The Republic Intends To Summon The Turkish Ambassador To Deliver A Letter Of Protest Addressed To The Presidency Of His Country
Baghdad / NINA /- The Presidency of the Republic announced on Tuesday its intention to summon the Turkish ambassador in Baghdad to deliver a letter of protest addressed to the Turkish Presidency.
The Presidency of the Republic said in a statement, “Day after day, systematic military attacks on Iraqi territory, specifically in the Kurdistan region, are escalating without military or security justification, as the aggression targeted innocent civilians and military and security headquarters. We have made it clear to the concerned Turkish authorities on previous occasions that Iraq is ready to sit with the relevant security authorities to fill the gaps that Turkey believes are places of infiltration for those who want to harm its security, without seeing a real response to our calls.
The statement added: “The occurrence of some security violations and some military operations between neighboring countries is possible, but launching successive military attacks targeting cities and civilians as well as military personnel is something rejected by international law and inconsistent with the principles of good neighborliness, especially if the aggression is with weapons that are only used for open wars, such as drones, which have become a usual means of Turkish aggression against Iraqi lands, which threatens the security and stability that Iraq enjoys today and which it has not witnessed since 2003, and we condemn in the strongest terms these repeated attacks on the safe cities of the Kurdistan region.
It continued: "Since 2003, successive Iraqi governments have worked to send reassuring messages to neighboring countries, the region and the world, that the new Iraq only believes in dialogue as a language for understanding and resolving problems and areas of difference and disparity, and has demonstrated its new trends by building bridges of communication and restoring relations that have been weakened by the previously regime's policies, establishing major joint projects and opening its doors to countries that found in the Iraqi market the largest outlet to revive their economy, especially neighboring Turkey.
The statement said: “For this Iraqi openness and good faith to be confronted with such reactions and drones is unacceptable, and the Iraqi state will not remain silent about it.”
It also said: “Iraq has paid the greatest tax to confront terrorist organizations. The terrorist organization ISIS was not satisfied with Iraq as a spoil for itself, but was seeking to take Iraqi lands as a launching pad for launching its terrorism on neighboring countries. Over the years, Iraq has been confronting this terrorist organization with the best of its sons and its money until its project was dropped.” It defended its land and the lands of neighboring countries.”
It pointed out, “After all these sacrifices, Iraqi lands are exposed daily to systematic attacks. This is evidence of bad faith and a lack of desire for safe, stable relations.”
The statement stated, “Today we have taken the initiative to summon the relevant Iraqi security ministries to hear from them a detailed report. We will also conduct extensive contacts with the international community, in addition to summoning the Turkish ambassador in Baghdad to deliver a letter of protest addressed to the Turkish presidency.”
It concluded by saying: "Mercy and eternity to Iraq's heroic martyrs, both civilians and soldiers, who were killed as a result of the repeated Turkish aggression. We will work seriously to stop and condemn such attacks. The new Iraq is an Iraq that only believes in the language of dialogue for security and dignity and will not stand idly by those who seek to undermine its security, sovereignty and stability."/ End
