M`SIAN GOVT WILLING TO ASSIST IJN-LIKE PRIVATE HOSPITALS

BUTTERWORTH (Malaysia), June 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government is
willing to assist corporate bodies to build hospitals if they could offer high
quality medical services like the ones offered by the National Heart Institute
(IJN).

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nor Mohamed Yakcop said
the government was also willing to work closely with private hospitals by
sending civil servants to get their medical treatment there.

"This would assure the hospitals of a steady monthly income," he told
reporters after opening IJN's Healthy Heart Day, here Saturday.

Meanwhile, IJN chief executive officer Mohd Radzif Mohd Yunus said 85 per
cent of 134,000 patients who received treatment at the IJN annually were funded
by the government.

He said IJN, established in 1992, had an annual operation expenditure of
RM200 million (US$1=RM3.58).
