Voronin thanks RF leadership for support to Moldova's statehood.

.
CHISINAU, June 22 (Itar-Tass) -- Incumbent Moldovan President Vladimir
Voronin expressed gratitude to the Russian leadership for the support to
Moldova's statehood at a critical moment of the country's history.

"A friend in need is a friend indeed. We are particularly grateful to
the personal position of the Russian president and the Foreign Ministry,
which supported our statehood at a quite dramatic moment of our history. I
am speaking about the support to statehood, not any separate political
force," Voronin told Itar-Tass ahead of his working visit in Moscow on
Monday.
Meanwhile, the Moldovan president rejected some allegations that this
visit is linked with early parliamentary elections in Moldova.
"The elections have nothing to do with it. Perhaps, the elections only
spur up our activity. Despite the fact that Moldova is under a looming
threat of sliding in a new political crisis, the country is ruled, the
government works actively and there are many urgent issues of absolutely
pragmatic nature. Some issues can be settled only through joint efforts of
Moldova and Russia. Economic and energy cooperation are given priority
among these issues.
"Meanwhile, it is very important for Moldova to finalize new
mechanisms of Moldovan wine exports that have been practiced together with
Russian colleagues in the last few years. I am to meet with President
Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. We will certainly
discuss the political issues. In the fuss of the last few months the most
important problem - the Dniester peace settlement was pushed to the
sidelines that cannot be permitted. Meanwhile, we should discuss some key
tasks put on the CIS agenda. So, the program is intensive as you can see,"
the Moldovan president said.
Alongside, Voronin noted that meetings with the Russian leadership
"make the intracranial pressure of some people going up." "Therefore, I do
not doubt that this visit in Moscow will arise various interpretations
once again. But, alias, I cannot help it. This visit can be called a
pre-election visit, as well as my working visit to Serbia at the end of
the week and a forthcoming visit in Brussels," the Moldovan leader pointed
out.

.Moldova will not slide in crisis, standoff after elections-Voronin.

CHISINAU, June 22 (Itar-Tass) -- Incumbent Moldovan President Vladimir
Voronin believes that a victory of the ruling Communist Party at
forthcoming July early parliamentary elections will prevent Moldova from
sliding in a crisis and a standoff. Voronin has made a statement in an
exclusive interview with Itar-Tass on the eve of his working visit in
Moscow on Monday.
"We should do our best for this. We know that most Moldovan citizens
sided with us," Voronin, who the leader of the ruling Communist Party,
said on Sunday. Meanwhile, he noted it is important that "elections would
meet all democratic standards this time." "The opposition has already
brought shame on itself with its statements about the falsification of the
election returns producing no arguments for accusations against the
incumbent authorities. We are facing a responsible task: to win two
victories - in the elections and that on the national scale. We need only
a fair victory," Voronin pointed out.
Despite the fact that the observers from the OSCE, the EU, the CIS and
other international organizations recognized the April parliamentary
elections valid, the opposition dissatisfied with the Communist victory
staged actions of protest in Chisinau. On April 7, actions of protest
turned into street riots that resulted in the looming of the parliament
building and the presidential residence. Though the vote recount did not
find any violations, the opposition blocked the presidential elections in
the parliament provoking early elections, at which the opposition is
planning to have revenge for the previous defeat.
"We understand what kind of plans are cherished. We are actually
offered to turn every new day in the April 7 events. Our opponents are
seeking for destabilization. So, their goal is to defeat Moldova rather
than the Communist Party," Voronin said.
"All Moldova already realized this risk after all. Our citizens in
contrast to the leaders of the opposition parties have not only the
instinct of self-preservation, but also normal civil and patriotic
sentiments. They will prevent the country from sliding in a liberal
criminal bog of crisis and standoff," the Moldovan president said.
