RF, Japan seek to find new regulators of world trade-view.
TOKYO, June 23 (Itar-Tass) - Russia and Japan coordinate their actions
in the light of world downturn and seek to find new regulators of world
trade and finances, Sergei Naryshkin, Head of the Russian Presidential
Administration, said here on Tuesday in a speech at a meeting of the
Council for Friendly Exchanges. This non-governmental organisation brings
together prominent Japanese businessmen, politicians, and public figures.
Naryshkin said, "Russia and Japan are important partners in matters
concerning the ensurance of security in the Asia-Pacific Region. In the
light of the global downturn our two countries coordinate their actions
within the scope of the Group of Twenty in the interests of normalising
the world economy and with a view to determining new regulators of the
world trade and world finances".
Naryskin completes his short visit to Tokyo later in the day and
leaves by air for Moscow. This past Monday he held meetings with Japanese
Premier Taro Aso, Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone, and Yukio Hatoyama,
leader of the oppositional Democratic Party. Naryshkin also attended the
opening of a traditional Russian culture festival in Japan. The festival
is held already for a fourth time.
.Seoul confirms Pyongyang-announced ban on navigation.
SEOUL, June 23 (Itar-Tass) - The Democratic People's Republic of Korea
(DPRK) has notified the coast guard of Japan about a 16-day ban on sea
navigation in the area of its eastern coast. Pyongyang said this is
accounted for by the holding of military exercises, Won Dae-yong, press
secretary of the Defence Ministry of the Republic of Korea, announced on
Tuesday.
The ban will be in effect from June 25 to July 10 near the North
Korean port of Wonsan. It is the first time that the DPRK mentioned
military exercises as the reason for the introduction of limintations on
navigation, analysts here point out. The port of Wonsan is situated in the
south-eastern part of the DPRK, approximately 100 km from the inter-Korean
border.
Since the conduct of the second test of a nuclear device on May 26,
North Korea has effected a series of launches of short-range rockets from
its eastern coast. Analysts here do not rule out the possibility that
Pyongyang prepares to test-fire several medium-range rockets at a rocket
base south of Wonsan.
