His media office said in a statement that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani met with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on the sidelines of his participation in the Davos Forum held in Switzerland.

The statement explained that the meeting witnessed a review of Iraqi-European relations and their development paths, as well as a discussion of the international situation in the Middle East region and developments in events in the Gaza Strip.

The statement continued that “the future role of the international coalition to fight ISIS in Iraq was also discussed, as Al-Sudani pointed out that the Iraqi armed forces, with all their types, were able to establish security and cut off the roots of terrorism, and the conditions have become suitable for ending the role of the coalition and moving to bilateral security coordination relations between Iraq and friendly countries.”

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of European countries taking responsible steps, cooperating with Iraq in ending Al-Hawl camp file, and receive their citizens and assuming security responsibility related to them.
