Tokyo police arrest S. Korean man wanted in actress's suicide+
TOKYO, June 24 Kyodo - Tokyo police arrested Wednesday a South Korean man wanted in connection with the death in March of actress Jang Ja Yeon, who killed herself in her Seoul suburb home and left a note saying she had been forced to have sex with entertainment industry executives.
The Metropolitan Police Department apprehended Kim Jong Seoung, 39, for
violation of the immigration law and quoted him as saying he had ''committed a
crime (in South Korea) and overstayed in Japan to avoid being arrested.''
Kim, the former head of Jang's management agency, was allowed to stay in Japan
only until June 2 and had no passport at the time of his arrest at a hotel in
Minato Ward, the police said, quoting him as saying ''I threw my passport
away.''
The South Korean government issued an arrest warrant for Kim and is now seeking
his extradition from Japan, where he is believed to be in hiding.
In April, South Korean police authorities said they had charged Kim and other
people with various crimes in connection with Jang's suicide, including
forcible molestation and defamation.
Jang was found hanged in her home on March 7 and South Korean media reported a
week later that there was a purported suicide note claiming she had been
pressed to have sex with entertainment executives in exchange for increasing
her exposure through their influence. The note reportedly mentioned some names
of media and corporate executives.
Kim starred in the TV drama ''Boys Over Flowers,'' a series based on a Japanese
comic book.
