PM Discusses With The German Chancellor Bilateral Relations And Work To Expand Them

Baghdad / NINA /- Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani held today a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

 The meeting, on the sidelines of al-Sudani's participation in the Munich Security Conference 2024, discussed relations between the two countries, and work to expand them in various sectors, in accordance with the joint action plan approved in Berlin in 2023, and reviewed the understandings that had been implemented based on previous mutual meetings and visits, which resulted in clear growth in relations between Iraq and Germany.

 The Prime Minister indicated Iraq's keenness to develop relations with Germany, especially in the field of energy, in addition to other economic and industrial fields.

 Regarding the Palestinian issue, Al-Sudani stressed the necessity of rapid international action to stop the war, as the international reaction was not commensurate with the scale of the event that led to humanitarian disasters in the Gaza Strip, expressing his hope that the efforts would result in stopping the war that affected the security of the region and the world.  It obstructed navigation and the flow of energy supplies.

 Al-Sudani explained that the solution lies in the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people, without anyone deciding on their behalf, stressing that Iraq has made efforts to calm the region and is still continuing in this matter, in which it has succeeded in overcoming some tensions, and that Iraq’s security is important for the region and not just for the Iraqis.

 For his part, Schulz praised Iraq's keenness to develop relations with his country in various fields, and expand the horizons of cooperation between the two countries, pointing to Iraq's important role in achieving calm in the region, and emphasizing the necessity of involving all friends in calm initiatives, since his country is making great efforts to called for stopping the war in Gaza, making sure to stop its repercussions, and sending urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, warning against the consequences of opening any new front in the Palestinian territories./End
