statement on the case of Le Cong Dinh

Hanoi (VNA) – The statement on the case of Le Cong Dinh made on June 15 by a
spokesman for the US Department of State is groundless, said a senior diplomat.

Nguyen Phuong Nga, Deputy Head of the Foreign Ministry’s Press Department, made
the statement at an international press briefing on June 25 where she briefed the
press on legal violations committed by Le Cong Dinh.

“This (the US statement) interferes in Vietnam’s internal affairs and goes
against the commitments that the US stated clearly in the two countries’ joint
statement that it respects Vietnam’s national sovereignty, security and
territorial integrity,” Nga emphasised.

“The statement exasperates the Vietnamese people,” she added.

The diplomat reported that the responsible Vietnamese agencies have met with
representatives of the US Government to clarify the issue and request that the US
not interfere in Vietnam ’s internal affairs.-Enditem
