Iraq renews its condemnation in the strongest terms of the crimes of genocide in Gaza and demands an immediate and sustainable ceasefire and the protection of civilians

Baghdad / NINA /- Iraq renewed its condemnation in the strongest terms, the brutal occupation aggression against the Gaza Strip and the crimes of genocide it is committing against the people and workers of Palestine, demanding the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, the protection of civilians, and an end to the massacres and collective punishments imposed by the occupation forces.

In his speech at the 112th session of the International Labor Conference in Geneva, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Chairman of the Arab Group, Ahmed Al-Assadi, called on the International Labor Organization to take the necessary measures to provide urgent assistance to contribute to improving the conditions of workers and the three production parties in the occupied Palestinian territories, renewing the call to open humanitarian aid corridors to facilitate safe access to supplies and basic services for all civilians in view of the spread of diseases, poverty, and hunger as a result of the occupation forces continuing their military attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Al-Asadi said: Iraq welcomes the decisions of the International Court of Justice requiring an immediate halt to the aggression against Gaza and the attacks in Rafah based on the Convention on the Prevention of the Crime of Genocide, and supports what was stated in the report of the Director-General regarding the necessity of ending the occupation that threatens social justice, calling on the Director-General of the organization to put pressure on the occupying power to restore withheld security rights, as well as return clearance funds to the Palestinian Authority, apply International Labor Organization standards to Palestinian workers, and support the Unemployment Emergency Fund and the Palestinian Employment Fund.

He added, "Iraq appreciate the efforts made by the International Office to support the labor market and enhance social protection in Palestine through the Decent Work Programme. It also demands that the Office prepare a report on how the organization responded to the observations and violations monitored by the Director-General's report on the situation of workers in the occupied territories, calling for developing a strategy to address the ongoing crisis facing the social partners in Gaza, the West Bank and other occupied territories, and submitting a detailed follow-up report to the next session of the Board of Directors and to the next International Labor Conference on the organization’s response to the consequences of the occupying power’s aggression against the world of work and its parties in the Palestinian territories.  "./End
