Railway Workers' Feats for War Victory

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- The Korean people's tradition of victory was created in the fierce flames of gunfire in the 1950s. Recorded in this great history of war victory are heroic feats performed by the workers in the railway transport sector.
In the three-year Fatherland Liberation War, the railway workers did not hesitate to dedicate their youth and lives to the Party and the leader, the country and the people. During the war, 16 784 of them received official commendation with 31 persons winning the title of DPRK Hero and six the title of Labor Hero.
In hearty response to the patriotic call of President Kim Il Sung for the victory in the war, the railway transport workers performed new miracles and innovations, braving the flames of gunfire.
An engineer of the Wonsan Locomotive Section took the lead in the extra-traction movement by hauling 14 more freight cars than schedule. With the development of this movement, the Jongju Locomotive Section hauled 1 563 more freight cars than schedule in 1952 alone.
Workers and technicians of the Pyongyang Locomotive Section increased their running distance far more than before the war in the first year of the war and all the locomotive sections launched a drive for running more than 180 kilometers a night.
The crews and repairmen of the West Pyongyang Locomotive Section performed unprecedented feats in ensuring the accident-free running for 300 days. Following their examples, 26 locomotive sections broke the records in accident-free running in 1952 alone.
The railway workers successfully ensured the transport of war supplies in the war period by rebuilding 1 030 km-long railways and 273 km-long railway bridges and repairing 8 400 freight cars and 845 locomotives.
They over-fulfilled their freight transport plans by 105 percent in 1952 and 153.2 percent in the first half of 1953, thus contributing to the victory in the war. -0-
