Peasants' Feats for War Victory

Pyongyang, July 21 (KCNA) -- Recorded in the DPRK's history of war victory is the heroic fighting spirit of patriotic peasants, displayed in the grain production during the last Fatherland Liberation War, as well as the merits of the Korean People's Army soldiers.
At that time, the country's arable land was destroyed and manpower and draught animals were in absolutely short supply, owing to the barbarous atrocities of the U.S. imperialists. But, such situation could not break the indomitable mental power of the peasants who turned out in sowing.
In Juche 40 (1951) alone, the grain-seeding plan was overfulfilled at 101.2 percent and ploughing and sowing were completed ten days earlier than before the war, thanks to the devoted efforts of the peasants.
The number of plow women increased rapidly in the rural areas across the country. In North and South Phyongan and Hwanghae provinces alone, more than ten thousand women volunteered to plow in 1951.
In 1951, the farms across the country irrigated more over 7 290 hectares of land than 1950.
The production of home-made manure increased by 216.3 percent in 1951 and that in 1952 by 1 109 percent, as compared with 1947.
Ox-sharing teams and labor-exchanging teams were organized on a wide scale to bring about innovations in farming.
Amid a brisk campaign for increased wartime food production, grain output in 1950 surpassed the production level in 1948, the peak year before the war, and the total grain output in 1952 increased by 113 percent as compared with 1951.
The indomitable and noble self-sacrificing spirit, displayed by the patriotic and heroic peasants of the victorious wartime generation, serves as an ideological and moral legacy to be inherited by the younger generations. -0-
