Symposium on Geological and Biological Diversity in Mt Paektu area Held

 Pyongyang, July 25 (KCNA) -- A symposium on geological and biological diversity in the area of Mt Paektu took place at Samjiyon College of Technology and the Samjiyon City Sci-tech Library in the DPRK from July 19 to 24.
Present there were teachers, researchers, graduate students and others from more than 10 units, including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, University of Sciences, the State Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Forest Science.
The symposium heard papers dealing with the distribution features of volcanic rocks in the area of Mt Paektu, the assessment and protection and management of forest ecological environment and the analysis of development of biodiversity according to climate change as well as necessary sci-tech measures.
Drawing the attention of its participants were proposals for managing trees' nutrition in the forests around Chairman Kim Jong Il's birthplace in the Paektusan Secret Camp and for protecting habitat of birds in the area of Mt Paektu.
During the symposium, there were a show of multimedia on the Mt Paektu area and diverse visits. -0-
