Russia & Brunei seek to deepen partnership in world affairs
MOSCOW, July 2 (Itar-Tass) - Russia and Brunei confirm mutual desire
for deepening partnership in world affairs, based on proximity of views on
key issues of our times, stated on Wednesday the Russian Foreign Ministry
by the results of talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and
Brunei Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, now
in Moscow on an official visit.
"The main attention was given to discussing ways of further
development of Russian-Brunei relations, including the political dialogue,
consolidation of the contractual and legal basis, stepped-up trade,
economic and investment ties, closer contacts between the Russian and
Brunei business communities, expansion of humanitarian, scientific and
educational exchanges," the Foreign Ministry reported.
"While discussing foreign policy issues, the sides confirmed mutual
desire for deepening partnership in world affairs, based on proximity of
Russian and Brunei views on key issues of our times."
"The sides expressed a joint opinion in favour of consolidating
multilateral approaches in international relations, forming a just
democratic world order based on strict observance of the UN Charter and
norms of international law as well as ensuring equal security and equal
conditions for all states, " the Foreign Ministry reported.
The sides also "stressed the importance of further joint efforts of
the world community to ride out the global financial and economic crisis
and to create a new, more transparent and efficient international
financial system".
The Russian ministry noted "the ministers examined in detail the
situation in the Asia-Pacific region, including prospects for
strengthening cooperation between the two countries at the APEC forum and
the Russia-ASEAN partnership dialogue".
"The Russian side accentuated its intention to develop cooperation
with the Association and readiness to join such multilateral structures as
the Asia-Europe forum and East Asian summits," the ministry emphasised.
"Following the meeting, Mohamed Bolkiah invited Sergei Lavrov to come
to Brunei on an official visit at a convenient time," the ministry said.
"The invitation was accepted with gratitude."
