Tver forum to discuss prospects for information society in Russia

TVER, July 2 (Itar-Tass) - Over 1,000 specialists will participate in
the sixth Tver Economic Forum (TEF), called "Information Society", opening
on Thursday in the capital city of the Tver Region. The TEF, enjoying the
status of a nation-wide event, "is devoted to questions of the present-day
state of and prospects for developing information society in Russia as
well as mechanisms for implementing these plans," Itar-Tass learnt at the
regional administration.
In the opinion of forum organisers, "a switch-over of bodies of state
power to operation in the electronic format enables them to respond more
rapidly to the needs of citizens, to establish efficient return
communication, under which every citizen of the country can follow the
government's operation in the on-line regime".
The forum will also examine issues of using information and
communication technologies in the system of public health and social
protection of population, culture, education and science.
Great attention to the Tver forum is quite logical: the Tver Region
has already launched several pilot projects, unmatched in present-day
Russia, including the project of setting up the united automated control
system "Electronic Russia", the "Social Card" project, aimed at granting
citizens a broad range of various services, the project of the federal
programme "Road traffic security" as well as "Telemedicine".
According to the regional administration, the Tver forum is expected
to be attended by head of the Russian president's office Sergei Naryshkin,
Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications Igor Shchegolev and Minister
of Education Andrei Fursenko.
The Russian Association of Managers and the administration of the Tver
Region are the forum's sponsors. The Russian president's office, the
Federation Council and the State Duma render it support.
