CJ Group Vice Chairwoman Lee to receive Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) -- CJ Group Vice Chairwoman Lee Mie-kyung, also known as Miky Lee, will receive a U.S. think tank's annual Global Citizen award later this month for her role in globalizing Korean culture through films and other entertainment works, the institution has said.

The Atlantic Council plans to honor her with the award at a dinner event on Sept. 23 on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly week in New York, it said in a press release on Tuesday.

"CJ Group Vice Chairwoman Miky Lee for her decades-long leadership in injecting vision for cultural businesses at CJ Group, her influence in globalizing Korean culture, including producing the Academy Award-winning film Parasite, and her commitment to promote artistic storytelling on the world stage," the think tank said.

Also on the list of this year's honorees are President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The award recognizes individuals with prominent influence on the world stage, including heads of state and world-renowned artists.

In 2017, then South Korean President Moon Jae-in received the award. Other previous recipients include former Israeli President Shimon Peres, former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and world-renowned musicians Lang Lang, Wynton Marsalis and Quincy Jones.
