RM50 Million Allocation In Budget 2025 To Empower Ai Education In Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- The allocation of RM50 million (US$ 11.4 million) under Budget 2025 to enhance Artificial Intelligence (AI) education is expected to provide opportunities for more local universities to offer AI-focused academic programmes.

Senior Lecturer at the College of Computing, Informatics, and Mathematics, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Assoc Prof Dr Sofianita Mutalib, said the funding would help equip more graduates with a foundational understanding of AI and related application skills.

She added that it would benefit the development of AI-related products in the country while ensuring a steady supply of highly skilled experts in the technology and digital economy fields.

“These skills can contribute to the development of the country’s AI technology and will undoubtedly enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness in the AI sector across ASEAN and globally.

“Mastering new AI skills, adapting existing technology, supported by significant investment from foreign companies, along with government-established standards and policies that support innovation in AI, will ensure we remain competitive and have the potential to become a digital hub in ASEAN,” she said.

Sofianita made these remarks as a guest on Bernama Radio today during a discussion on Budget 2025.

Last Friday (Oct 18), Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim tabled Budget 2025 with an allocation of RM421 billion, comprising RM335 billion for operating expenditure and RM86 billion for development.
