.Three people go missing after boat accident on the Ob River.
MOSCOW, July 5 (Itar-Tass) - Three people went missing after an
accident on the Ob River. Gusts of strong wind turned over a TGM-306
motorboat 20 km away from the city of Salekhard. There were nine people
onboard, including three crewmen and six participants in the television
and radio expedition "The Yamal Parallel", a source at the Russian
Emergencies Ministry branch for the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District told
Itar-Tass on Sunday.
The expedition had gathered materials about the summer fishing season
on the Ob, the life of fishermen and fisheries in the region. After a week
spent in fishermen's camps, the expedition was returning to its base. The
weather that was fine suddenly got worse. The first gusts of wind turned
the boat over. New gusts raised huge waves that covered the vessel.
Luckily, it was equipped with life jackets and lifebuoys. Besides,
professional and coordinated actions made it possible for six people to
reach for safety.
A regional emergency centre continues searching for the three missing
people despite unfavorable weather conditions.
