The President of the Republic Calls On The Int'l community To Impose A Ceasefire In Gaza And Lebanon/MORE

Baghdad /NINA/ -President of the Republic Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid called on the international community to impose a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon.

This came in a speech he delivered at the COP29 United Nations Climate Conference in Azerbaijan. He said that the Iraqi government has worked to prepare a set of national documents and strategies to contribute to fulfilling Iraq's voluntary commitments towards the Paris Agreement.

He added, "We have also completed the preparation of the Technology Needs Assessment Document and the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Document, which aims to identify Iraq's needs for climate technologies in priority sectors. We are also about to complete the preparation of the Climate Investment Plan, which aims to pave practical paths for the public and private sectors to fulfill Iraq's climate commitments by attracting local and foreign investments and mobilizing financial resources to meet the challenges of climate change and move towards a more sustainable future.

Rashid stressed, "Iraq has taken serious steps to reduce methane emissions, as it was the first OPEC member to join the Global Methane Compact.

 Rashid pointed out that "Iraq participates in the work of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition and the International Methane Emissions Observatory, and we are working to achieve the goal of zero associated gas flaring by 2028.

He explained, "Finally, I would like to remind the international community of the importance of its role in enhancing regional security and stability in the Middle East region, and working to spare the region international tensions and conflicts from the economic and social consequences of which we have suffered for many years." /End
