Minister of Transport from Madrid: We Held Important Discussions With the Spanish Side on Developing the Transport Sector and Enhancing joint Cooperation

Baghdad / NINA /- Minister of Transport Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi announced that he held important talks with the Spanish side on developing the transport sector and enhancing joint cooperation, while accompanying the Iraqi delegation headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, in the Iraqi-Spanish Economic Forum, which was held in the Spanish capital, Madrid.

A statement by the ministry's media office stated: "The minister participated within the Iraqi delegation headed by Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to Madrid, in the Iraqi-Spanish Economic Forum held by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, in the presence of an elite group of businessmen from both countries." 

The statement added that the forum sessions discussed economic relations and bilateral partnerships between Iraq and Spain in all fields.

The statement quoted the Minister of Transport as saying: "Our government, led by Al-Sudani, wishes to benefit from the expertise of Spanish companies and successful experiences in various sectors, including the transport sector." 

Al-Saadawi said: "The meetings of the Iraqi delegation with the Spanish side reviewed the development road project, which represents the least expensive and shortest corridor between the East and the West." 

 The Minister pointed out that: "A memorandum of understanding was signed with the Spanish side to study and design (Mehran-Kut-Karbala) railway project, in addition to the recent contract with the Spanish company Imathia to establish (Basra-Shalamcheh) railway project to transport passengers and pilgrims, and there is an offer submitted by a coalition of Spanish companies regarding the establishment of (Karbala-Najaf) railway project." The delegation headed by the Prime Minister included the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Transport, and Trade, the Governor of Wasit, advisors, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense, and undersecretaries of a number of ministries, a group of businessmen, heads of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, the Federation of Iraqi Industries, and the Tourism Authority. / End
