Financial Support from the Science Foundation for Dissertations and Research Projects on the Topic of Palestine
The Iranian Science Foundation intends to support scientific research in the form of research projects, doctoral or post-doctoral dissertations aimed at clarifying and analyzing various aspects of the Palestinian issue and the humanitarian disasters occurring in the occupied territories.
According to a report by Mehr News Agency, Ali Mohammad Soltani, during a press conference held on Sunday, December 2, 2023, at the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-based Economy, referred to the foundation's call titled "The Palestine Issue: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow." He said that with the intensification of the Palestine issue and the Gaza crisis on October 7, 2023, and the occurrence of humanitarian disasters in the occupied territories and the Israeli regime's encroachment on the West Bank, multiple historical, political, legal, artistic, psychological, and generally social questions have emerged in the field of Palestinian studies. These developments have cast a shadow over global policies, while many questions about Palestine are currently being raised, which need to be addressed by academic centers and scholarly communities.
The head of the National Science Foundation of Iran added that, based on this, the foundation intends to support scientific research in the form of research projects, doctoral or post-doctoral dissertations in order to clarify and analyze various aspects of this issue in priority areas such as the history and political geography of Palestine, historical anthropology, ancient heritage and civilization of Palestine, the ecosystem, climate, and the Palestinian issue, Palestine from the perspective of political science, international relations and law, as well as population studies and psychological-social and sociological studies (including issues of migrants and refugees).
Soltani also mentioned other priority research areas in the Palestine call, such as the representation of the Palestine issue in literature and art, the depiction of Palestine in mainstream and social media, Palestine and future economic and socio-cultural studies from local, regional, and global perspectives, examining Iran’s foreign policy on the Palestinian issue with historical and future-oriented approaches, evaluating the policies and actions of international organizations and various countries, including the Muslim world, the region, Europe, and the United States on the Palestinian issue.
The head of the Iranian National Science Foundation mentioned that the deadline for this call is February 3, 2025. He added that in this call, scientific publications, including articles in reputable international and domestic journals, book authorships, and articles related to the research field in international languages such as Arabic, English, etc., will receive special support. The target audience for this call is professors from all scientific disciplines, especially those in the fields of humanities, social sciences, and arts.
Regarding support for research projects in this call, he explained that the Iranian National Science Foundation will support research projects up to 350 million tomans, doctoral dissertations up to 110 million tomans, and post-doctoral researchers will receive monthly support equivalent to 100% of the salary of an associate professor at a university.
