Baghdad /NINA/- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein discussed with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, in the Qatari capital, Doha, the developments in Syria and the seriousness of their repercussions on the security of the region.
A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the two sides stressed that Iraq and Russia are concerned with the Syrian issue, and stressed the importance of monitoring developments with great care and attention.
The statement explained that "the discussions addressed the outcomes of the tripartite meeting held in Baghdad yesterday, which brought together the foreign ministers of Iraq, Syria and Iran. In this context, the Russian Foreign Minister welcomed this meeting, stressing the need to intensify efforts to spare Syria further tragedies.
For his part, Fuad Hussein pointed to the seriousness of the developments in Syria, and the imminent humanitarian crisis that may result, whether through internal displacement or the influx of refugees to neighboring countries.
The Minister stressed that "Iraq's position is to intensify efforts to confront any violations or transgressions on the borders by terrorist groups, and that Iraq is interested in protecting its borders and the integrity of its territories and preventing Iraq from being pushed into being part of this conflict." /End
