National Park Closed Indefinitely After Elephant Attack
LOEI, Dec 13 (TNA) - Phu Kradueng National Park has been indefinitely closed starting today after a tourist was killed by a wild elephant.
The park authorities have ordered the evacuation of approximately 1,400 tourists currently stranded on the mountain.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when a 49-year-old female tourist was attacked and killed by a wild elephant while hiking with a friend on a trail leading to Phen Phop Mai Waterfall.
The elephant, estimated to be between 15 and 20 years old, is believed to have been a lone male in musth.
After careful consideration and to ensure the safety of all visitors, the park authorities have decided to temporarily close the entire national park effective December 13. The park will reopen once the situation has returned to normal.
Approximately 1,000 tourists already on the peak were allowed to stay but were restricted from hiking. They were required to evacuate the park today. Tourists with existing reservations can request refunds.
