Algiers, December 18, 2024, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is participating in the 41st session of the Arab Council of Housing and Urban Planning Ministers in Algeria from December 17 to 19, held under the patronage of Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and coinciding with the 8th Arab Housing Conference themed “Sustainable Urbanism and Construction: Challenges and Promising Hopes.”
The Kingdom’s delegation is led by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing for Residential Supply Stimulus and Real Estate Development Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al-Tawil. The event provides an opportunity to exchange expertise and strengthen cooperation among Arab nations in housing and urban development.
Discussions on the agenda include the Arab Strategic Executive Plan for Housing and Urban Development, emerging urban trends, and the significance of global sustainable development. The session also emphasizes enhancing collaboration in housing and construction to address citizens’ needs and improve infrastructure in Arab countries.
The conference explores strategies for advancing sustainable urbanization, including developing resilient and safe cities, promoting green buildings, and sharing best practices that align with sustainable development goals and quality of life standards. The importance of establishing benchmarks for decent housing to serve diverse segments of Arab societies is also highlighted.
The session chose Saudi Arabia’s slogan for Arab Housing Day 2025, “Rebuilding Affected Communities — Building a Better Future,” which reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to rebuilding affected communities and fostering their recovery and growth.
The Kingdom also secured third place in the 2024 Arab Ministers of Housing and Urban Development Award for its “Bouvardia City” project in Jeddah, sharing this recognition with the Emirati Residential Neighborhood Initiative in the UAE.
The session aligns with the United Nations Strategy for Housing and Sustainable Urban Development for 2030 and the sustainable development goals endorsed by the Arab League. These efforts seek to create inclusive, safe, and sustainable cities, as endorsed at the council’s 13th session.
