Obama to meet Putin, business elite members Tue.
MOSCOW, July 7 (Itar-Tass) - US President Barack Obama has a rather
hard-driving programme for Tuesday in a continuation of his visit to
Russia. On Tuesday morning he is to meet with Russian Prime Minister
Vladimir Putin. This will be their first meeting in person.
One of few public events will be Tuesday's speech to be made by the US
President at a ceremony marking the presentation of diplomas to those who
have graduated from the Russian Economic School (RES). The White House
refers to the upcoming speech as a keynote one and rank it at the same
level as the one made by Obama not so long ago in Cairo.
RES Rector Sergei Guriyev has said, "The US President's participation
in the diplomas presentation ceremony is a great honour to us". "The
graduates, members of their families, and faculty members are looking
forward to Barack Obama's speech which appears to be particularly
important in the light of the global economic downturn that has affected
both the Russian and American economies," Guriyev emphasized.
In the afternoon, Obama is scheduled to hold yet another meeting with
the Russian President in a one-on-one format, Russian President's press
secretary Natalya Timakova has announced. "The two Presidents are to sum
up the results of their talks held on Monday," she specified.
On Tuesday afternoon, Dmitry Medvedev and his American guest will
attend a business forum, which is to take place in Moscow's Manezh. The
two leaders are to make speeches. Timakova said, "Due to the fact that the
Russo-American business forum will be held at Manezh, a list of
participants has been largely extended. More than 600 businessmen are to
participate (in the forum)".
Later in the day Barack Obama will attend a meeting of the leaders of
civil society of the two countries. Those present are to discuss matters
aimed at furnishing a solid foundation for a positive development of
relations between the Russian Federation and the United States of America.
Barack Obama is expected to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev.
A reception is to be given in the Kremlin on Tuesday evening in honour
of the American President.
In the morning of July 8, Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama will set
out on a journey to Italy to attend a Group of Eight summit.
.RF-US titanium working JV to open in Sverdlovsk region.
YEKATERINBURG, July 7 (Itar-Tass) - A Russo-American titanium working
joint-venture enterprise, the Ural Boeing Manufacturing (UBM), is started
up in Sverdlovsk Region on Tuesday for the first time. It will
rough-machine titanium stampings for the Boeing-787 airliners in the city
of Verkhnyaya (upper) Salda.
An agreement on the establishment of UBM, with aggregate investments
amounting to $70 million, on the basis of VSMPO facilities in the Urals
was signed in August 2007. It provided for equipment's coming into
operation in 2008. The UBM will machine titanium stampings for use in the
production of the Boeing-787 Dreamliner.
Fitted out with the most up-to-date hi-tech equipment, the UBM will
carry out primary machining of titanium stampings supplied from the
VSMPO-Avisma titanium producing plant located in direct proximity to the
UBM. The resultant titanium chips will be iimediately sent to the
VSMPO-Avisma for processing, which will make it possible to create a
unique technological circuit of closed cycle. The end product will be
used in the manufacture of the Boeing-787 Dreamliner and Russian airliners.
.Obama, Putin to meet at breakfast at Novo-Ogaryovo.
MOSCOW, July 7 (Itar-Tass) - US President Barack Obama will go to see
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin at the latter's residence at
Novo-Ogaryovo outside Moscow early in the morning on Tuesday (one to two
a.m., Washington time). The two leaders are expected to meet at a
breakfast.
Their conversation may continue for about 60-90 minutes and deal with
most diverse subjects concerning mutual relations between the two
countries, and bids fair to be very interesting and informal.
Dmitry Peskov, the Premier's press secretary said the meeting would
not be held in a one-on-one format but would involve the closest aides. He
said the sides would discuss primarily "an agenda that directly concerns
the government".
"Trade, economic, and investment relations with the US are obviously
far from corresponding to the potential of what we can do in actual fact,"
the press secretary specified. Thus, Putin intends to raise the issue
concerning the possibility of abrogating the Jackson-Vanik Amendment.
Putin, speaking to journalists several days ago, said, "In the
economic field, some US decisions, such as, say, the notorious
Jackson-Vanik Amendment, were taken at the height of the Cold War. The US
side has been promising, for eight years now, to abrogate it. However,
this has not been done. If the said amendment is abrogated, that would
signify a great headway."
"We are ready for an effective interaction. We really expect much from
the new (US) Administration," Putin stressed. "Those signals that have
been given from Washington up to now put one into the mood for a positive
dialogue", Putin pointed out.
The sides are also expected to discuss efforts to overcome the world
financial downturn.
