Bringing seeds from Vietnam, they carefully selected drought-resistant crops such as water spinach, Malabar spinach, mustard greens, pumpkins, zucchinis, and loofahs.

They used treated wastewater for irrigation.  To shield crops from the scorching heat, they built protective canopies. To keep pests at bay, they made natural pesticides from chili, garlic, and orange peels.

Captain Tran Ngoc Son of Engineering Unit No. 3, part of the UN peacekeeping mission in Abyei:

"Every time we grew fruits and vegetables, fruit flies would attack the harvest, making it incredibly difficult. So, we used plastic gloves to wrap the fruits. As they grew, we had to replace the gloves with larger ones."

After just a few months, lush green vegetable beds have flourished.

Wherever Vietnamese soldiers go, life and greenery follow!
