FM to his Ukrainian Counterpart: Iraq Stands At The Same Distance From Russia And Ukraine

Baghdad / NINA / -Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andriy Ivanovich Seba, on Friday on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany.
A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the meeting discussed the historical relations between the two countries, where Fuad Hussein stressed Iraq's firm position in respecting the principles of the United Nations Charter and the need to resolve disputes by peaceful means.
He also stressed that Iraq stands at the same distance from Russia and Ukraine, stressing the importance of reaching a peaceful settlement to the conflict between the two countries.
For his part, the Ukrainian minister extended an official invitation to Fuad Hussein to visit Ukraine, expressing his country's desire to open a consulate general in Erbil. The minister welcomed this step, stressing Iraq's keenness to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Fuad Hussein also stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of states and not to interfere in their internal affairs. In the same context, the Ukrainian minister called for developing cooperation between Iraq and Ukraine, especially in the agricultural field./End
