Under The Chairmanship Of Iraq, The Arab Forum For Sustainable Development Kicks Off In Beirut

Baghdad / NINA /- The eleventh session of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), began in Beirut on Monday under the chairmanship of Iraq. The three-day event, held in cooperation with the League of Arab States, is under the theme "Restoring Hope... Raising Ambition."

 

A statement from the Ministry of Planning stated that "Minister of Planning Mohammed Ali Tamim heads the Iraqi delegation participating in the forum."

 

Tamim delivered his speech as President of the Forum and representative of Iraq. Dr. Rola Dashti, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCWA, also delivered her speech. The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, the President of the Lebanese Republic, and Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, also delivered their speeches.

 

Iraq will participate in several important sessions of the forum, including the ministerial session on the Charter for the Future, in light of the Global Digital Compact; another session on reviewing the eighth Sustainable Development Goal, which addresses decent work in support of economic growth; and a session on voluntary national reviews, as Iraq and a number of Arab countries prepare to submit their voluntary reports for 2025 to the United Nations next July.

 

Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States; the Lebanese Minister of Administrative Development, representing President Joseph Aoun; and a number of Arab ministers, ambassadors, and representatives of international organizations will participate in the forum./ End
