Iraq And The UN Discuss Mechanisms For Implementing The Security Council Resolution To Ensure A Smooth Transition Of UNAMI's Tasks

Baghdad /NINA/- Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Mohammed Bahr al-Uloom, discussed with the Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, Atul Khare the mechanisms for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2732, to ensure a smooth transition of UNAMI's mandate.

 

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday: "Within the framework of joint coordination for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2732 regarding the termination of the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), the Under-Secretary-General for Bilateral Relations, Mohammed Bahr al-Uloom, received the Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, Atul Khare, and his accompanying delegation on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

During the meeting, Bahr al-Uloom expressed the Iraqi government's appreciation for the important role played by UNAMI from its inception to date, stressing that the relationship between Iraq and the United Nations will enter a new phase of cooperation and partnership, based on the priorities of the next phase and the positive developments witnessed in Iraq."

 

According to the statement, the two sides discussed the mechanisms for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2732, to ensure a smooth transition of the mission's mandate.

 

The Undersecretary affirmed Iraq's commitment to providing all necessary facilities to ensure the orderly implementation of this process, emphasizing Iraq's firm commitment to continuing constructive cooperation with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, based on its belief in the vital role played by the international organization in supporting stability and promoting economic development efforts at the regional and international levels.

 

For his part, Khare commended the remarkable progress Iraq is witnessing in various fields, commending the approach adopted by the Iraqi government to consolidate internal stability and strengthen regional cooperation frameworks. 

 

He emphasized the importance of continuing the partnership between Iraq and the United Nations as a fundamental pillar for supporting security and achieving sustainable development.

 

At the conclusion of the meeting, Khare expressed his appreciation for the fruitful cooperation shown by the Iraqi government in the context of the gradual withdrawal of UNAMI, emphasizing that this cooperation represents a model of constructive coordination between Member States and the United Nations./ End
