Foreign Minister participates in 163rd Arab League Council ministerial meeting

Cairo, Apr. 23 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the 163rd session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level.

 

The session was chaired by Dr. Ayman Al Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It was attended by Arab foreign ministers and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League.

 

The ministers discussed items on the agenda, including recommendations from the meeting of Arab ministers of finance and economy, other ministerial councils, and the meeting of senior officials and permanent delegates. They also reviewed reports prepared by the General Secretariat related to enhancing joint Arab action.

 

The meeting addressed current developments and political issues in the Arab region, particularly the Palestinian cause, the war on Gaza, Israeli violations in Jerusalem, Arab affairs, national security, international political developments, social affairs, human rights, economic matters, and legal issues.

 

The Council adopted a series of decisions to strengthen Arab cooperation at all levels and across various political, economic, and development fields.

 

The Council also adopted a decision on following up the initiatives proposed by the Kingdom of Bahrain at the 33rd Arab Summit, based on a report submitted by Bahrain to the General Secretariat. The decision calls on the General Secretariat to present the recommendations from the report to the upcoming Arab League Summit in the Republic of Iraq, and to coordinate with member states to gather feedback and submit the recommendations to the 164th session of the ministerial Council.

 

Bahrain’s delegation included Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, Ambassador of Bahrain to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States; Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Al Turaifi, Head of the Arab and African Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and accompanying officials.
