Foreign Minister holds talks with Cypriot counterpart

Manama, Apr. 28 (BNA):  Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a session of talks with Dr. Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, on the occasion of his visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.


 

Dr. Al Zayani commended the historical ties between the two countries and the advanced level of relations across various domains. He emphasised Bahrain’s commitment to develop bilateral cooperation and explore opportunities to enhance ties in political, economic, commercial, and development sectors to serve the interests of both countries and peoples.


 

On his part, Dr. Kombos highlighted the close ties between the two countries and the joint efforts to further develop cooperation. He emphasised Cyprus’s commitment to make use of available opportunities to advance economic, commercial, and investment cooperation in line with the shared interests of both countries.


 

The talks reviewed areas of bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and development domains, and means to develop them further under existing agreements and memoranda of understanding. They also discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in political consultation, diplomatic training, human rights, and sustainable development.


 

The two ministers also discussed regional and international developments, including conflicts threatening regional security and stability. They also discussed Arab and international efforts to de-escalate, maintain the ceasefire in Gaza throughout all its phases, facilitate the release of hostages and detainees, ensure the delivery of unimpeded humanitarian aid to civilians, and support efforts towards achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.


 

Furthermore, Dr. Al Zayani briefed Dr. Kombos on the outcomes of the Arab Summit hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain in May 2024, "the Bahrain Summit". He reviewed the initiatives presented by Bahrain and adopted at the summit. These include the call for an international peace conference to establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, providing educational and health services to those affected by conflicts, and developing cooperation in fintech, innovation, and digital transformation.


 

Both sides emphasised the importance of enhancing international cooperation to end regional conflicts, achieve comprehensive and sustainable peace, promote values of tolerance and coexistence, and advance development and prosperity for all peoples of the region.


 

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Khaled Yousef Al Jalahma, Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director General of Bilateral Relations; and Ahmed Ibrahim Al Qurainees, Acting Head of the European Affairs Sector.


 

From the Cypriot side, the meeting was attended by Dr. Andreas Eliades, Ambassador of Cyprus to Bahrain, and members of the accompanying delegation.
