FM Discusses With His Iranian Counterpart In Tehran Ways To Enhance Regional Stability

Baghdad / NINA /-Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, held a bilateral meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, on the sidelines of his participation in the Tehran Dialogue Forum.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement, the two sides discussed developing bilateral cooperation between Iraq and Iran and ways to enhance regional stability, in addition to discussing a number of issues of common interest.

Fuad Hussein affirmed: "Iraqi-Iranian relations are based on solid historical and geographical foundations," emphasizing Baghdad's keenness to enhance cooperation in the fields of security, economy, and energy, especially in light of the current regional challenges.”

He also pointed to the importance of activating the work of the joint committees between the two countries, highlighting the impact of sanctions on Iranian gas supplies to Iraq.

In the same context, the Minister reiterated Iraq's support for the ongoing diplomatic process between Tehran and Washington, describing it as "a vital path to achieving stability in the region." He noted that he “discussed this issue during his recent visit to Washington, where he emphasized the need to transform negotiations into tangible practical results that serve the interests of the peoples of the region.”

For his part, Araqchi expressed his appreciation for Iraq's active participation in the Tehran Dialogue Forum, affirming Iran's readiness to continue nuclear negotiations with the United States and praising Iraq's role in creating the appropriate conditions for diplomacy.

The meeting also addressed developments in regional crises, with Fuad Hussein stressing the importance of adopting comprehensive political solutions that ensure respect for state sovereignty and put an end to human suffering in the region./End
