L'AQUILA, July 10 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia proceeds from the assumption
that such problems as the nuclear programs in Iran and North Korea "should
be settled in political and diplomatic ways," Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev told a final press conference upon results of the G8 summit here
on Friday.
At the summit the G8 leaders "confirmed several obligations" in the
struggle with terrorism and piracy. "We were discussing the settlement of
the Middle East problem in view of the coexistence of two countries -
Israel and Palestine," the Russian president said, expressing hope that a
Moscow conference on the Middle East would also contribute to the peaceful
settlement in the region.
Medvedev recalled about the Friday statement issued by Russia, the
United States and France (the co-chairs of the Minsk OSCE Group) that
contains the appeal to the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia to exert
every effort to settle the Karabakh problem. The Russian president
expressed hope that he would meet with the leaders of Azerbaijan and
Armenia in a few days.
