The President Of The Republic Stresses The Importance Of Expanding The Horizons Of Bilateral Cooperation Between Iraq And NATO

Baghdad / NINA /- President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid stressed the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation between Iraq and NATO.

A statement from the Presidency's Media Department stated: "The President of the Republic received, at Baghdad Palace today, Wednesday, the new Commander of the NATO Mission in Iraq, General Christoph Hentzé, in the presence of the former Commander of the Mission, Lieutenant General Lukas Schweizer.

At the beginning of the meeting, the President welcomed the two commanders, wishing them success in their duties. Ways to strengthen relations between Iraq and the Alliance on issues related to capacity building and support for the armed forces through the provision of advice and training were also discussed."

According to the statement, the President of the Republic pointed to the importance of developing the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces and enabling them to confront security challenges, which would contribute to consolidating security and stability. The overall security situation and developments in the region were also reviewed.

The president stressed the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation between Iraq and NATO to include ways to improve human resource management and intelligence systems to combat terrorism.

For his part, General Hentzé expressed his thanks to the President of the Republic and his keenness to strengthen the relationship with NATO, stressing the alliance's efforts to ensure the success of its missions in Iraq, in a manner that achieves the aspirations of the Iraqis to maintain security and stability./ End
