PM Putin to make a working trip to St Petersburg.
ST.PETERSBURG, July 12 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will make a working trip to St. Petersburg on Sunday.
The government press service reports that the premier will attend a
flag raising ceremony at the "Sankt-Peterburg" icebreaker, will meet the
ship's crew and the shipbuilders.
The "Sankt-Peterburg" is a multi-functional icebreaker that can also
participate in rescue and emergency operations and do technical work under
water.
In recent years the Gulf of Finland has seen an active construction of
port facilities, including the creation of the BTS-1 and BTS-2 oil
transshipment terminals. That made it urgent to build ice-breakers that
could ensure undisrupted and safe navigation in the Gulf of Finland.
In 2004, the construction of two icebreakers was included in the
2002-2010 federal target program for the modernization of the Russian
transport system. The construction of the first icebreaker 'Moskva' was
completed in November 2006. The second icebreaker 'Sankt-Peterburg' was
launched on May 28, 2008. The sea trials were completed in June 2009. The
construction of the two ice-breakers had been financed from the federal
budget and from the budget of the federal state enterprise "Rosmorport"
(the Russian Maritime Port).
Prime Minister Putin will also attend the final round of the
International regatta of training sail vessels held since 1956. At
present, the regatta is called "The Race of Large Sailing Vessels". An
international non-profitable association of training sail vessels
organizes it. Its main task is moral and physical development of young
people, the promotion of a healthy way of life and the establishment of
friendly contacts among young people in various countries. One of the main
requirements is that at least 50% of the ship crews should be aged between
15 and 25. More than 100 sail vessels from 16 countries are taking part in
the regatta.
Soviet and then Russian sailboats have been taking part in the regatta
since 1978. Five major Russian sailing ships such as the 'Mir', the
'Kruzinshtern', the Sedov, the Nadezhda and the Pallada as well as more
than ten minor vessels and yachts are competing in the race this year.
.Florist festival opens in Pavlovsk park & museum complex.
ST.PETERSBURG, July 12 (Itar-Tass) - Two hundred florists from Russia
and foreign countries are taking part in the 'Imperial Bouquet ' florist
festival. It opened in Pavlovsk, a summer residence that belonged to
Empress Maria Fyodorovna, the wife of Russian Emperor Paul I, on Saturday.
The flower festival is timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of
the empress' birth to be marked this year.
At least 12,000 people are expected to visit Pavlovsk outside St.
Petersburg during the weekend. The festival's organizers have proclaimed
full freedom in creative work and promised to support new ideas and
innovative methods and debuts in the florist art and park design.
A contest program includes the decoration of vases in the private
garden of Maria Fyodorovna, the making of a historical bouquet or
decorations (like flower garlands, fans, handbags and hats), the creation
of a flower costume.
Visitors can enjoy the landscape design; everybody can participate in
a master class of garden and park design and decoration of the interiors.
For the first time an assembly of stylists accompanied by a fashion
show will be held as part of the florist festival.
The idea of holding a florist festival in Pavlovsk is linked to the
history of creation of one of Europe's biggest landscape parks.
Empress Maria Fydorovna was a great lover and expert on florist art.
Flower themes are present in the interior decoration of the Pavlovsk
Palace, in porcelain paintings, embroidery, painting and sculpture. The
empress's private quarters looked into a small garden lain out like Dutch
parks with flower- beds in the form of carpets.
In 1811 architect Andrei Voronikhin rebuilt a former country house of
General Pyotr Bagration especially for the empress. The new building was
named the Rose Pavilion. It was decorated gilded painting and the garlands
of silk roses. A rose garden was lain out around the pavilion. Flowers for
the rose garden were ordered from the best garden centre of Europe.
A unique landscape park, century-old trees, architectural masterpieces
and fanciful curves of the Slavyanka River form an integral historical,
cultural and natural reserve and create excellent conditions for the
translation of floristic ideas into a colorful flower show.
